PETSY, first introduced in 1928, was a very different bear from his predecessors. He had large ears and a pointed muzzle that made him look almost childlike. His light-blue moveable eyes were uniquely designed to give him multiple expressions. For this reason, the 1928 Petsy is highly valued by collectors and this exceptional 17” replica has been made in the same way as the original. PETSY is hand-stuffed with fine wood shavings. His inimitable facial expression is created not only by his blue glass eyes but also by his hand-stitched nose, originally red, but now faded, as with the original, to a light copper color. But as in the original, the red can still be seen in the underlying felt disc.

Horace The Longfellow Bear

Horace is the 1904 Steiff bear of Priscilla Longfellow Thorp-- the granddaughter of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Horace was a well traveled bear and rubbed shoulders with some famous people of the early 20th century. He even shook paws with Theodore Roosevelt! Steiff has reproduced Horace as he appears in 19th century family photos. You will be charmed by his velvet paw pads. These are an exact reproduction of Horace’s paw pads—which were patched over by a nanny in the 1920’s from material from a velvet cape. Horace is 24" tall.

Basa, the Baby Sailor Bear, is based on an adorable original early 20th century Teddy. In 1908, Steiff introduced a collection of dressed Teddies, including bears in dresses, suits, sweaters, and sailor outfits. Steiff frequently used this grouping of bears on advertising materials as their appeal was so universal. Basa was part of the dressed bear series—and he has not lost any of his charm in almost 100 years! This seaworthy sweetheart comes complete with period nautical garb, including navy wool pants and jumper, and a matching cap. Basa is 8" tall, mohair, five way jointed, and would be a darling companion for Steiff’s 2005 Teddy Kapitan.

Mini Mohair Color Splash Teddy Bears

This humorous rendition of a Teddy bear artist’s palette is comprised of six playfully colored 4” mini-bears, romping on a wooden artist’s palette. On every bear’s nose, there is a dash of color of his neighboring Teddy bear (counter-clockwise). Three bears are holding a paint tube in their paws just in case more paint is needed. The overall “picture” would not be complete without a paintbrush, which is also lying on the palette, so that anyone can pick it up and go on painting wherever their fancy takes them. Every tube has the word Steiff printed on it, as has the paintbrush. The mini-bears cannot be removed from the palette.
